Detroit Roma
Graphic novel co-written and drawn with Elene Usdin (2025)

In a post-apocalyptic Detroit, a young woman named Becki embarks on a journey to uncover the secrets of her late mother’s past while navigating tumultuous relationships with a paranoid, alcoholic father figure, a reclusive, junkie ex-movie star boss who never leaves her room, and her seemingly self-absorbed anorexic best friend Summer. As Becki begins to explore her own creative side through drawing, she starts to make sense of the fractured world around her. Becki and Summer set off on a road trip through the decaying landscapes of poor, white America to pay tribute to their mothers. As memories and present-day struggles intertwine in a non-linear narrative, Becki is drawn deeper into a world shaped by her father’s paranoia. Through shifting perspectives and fragmented timelines, the graphic novel explores the art of storytelling, revealing the emotional ties that bind the characters and uncovering the complex interplay between memory, identity, and truth.
